The principle of proper hemp transplantation
Content:

Cannabis must be replanted from time to time to ensure that the plant continues to grow and is healthy. If the roots are very crowded, then this can lead to negative consequences. In addition, hemp seedlings can be transplanted when they are strong enough, or the plant can be planted in the ground from a pot. It is worth thoroughly preparing for this process, which will be discussed in our article.

Disclaimer: We do not encourage the cultivation of marijuana, as this is a crime under the law of Ukraine. This article was created for informational purposes for growers who are engaged in the cultivation of cannabis in those territories where it is permitted by law.

Why cannabis needs to be replanted

Transplanting cannabis from a pot into the ground or into a larger pot is a mandatory step during cultivation. It is also worth considering that, after cloning, this is the second most traumatic process for marijuana. Thin roots can be damaged by oxygen, light rays or careless handling. A transplant should only be carried out in the following situations:

1. Do you want to plant hemp seedlings in the ground? First, they must grow strong enough, and only then should they be transplanted.

2. Scheduled potty change. The longer cannabis grows, the more space it needs for its root system.

Before changing the pot, you should definitely make sure that it is ready for this or even needs similar.

How to understand that it is time for a transplant

The surest sign that adult cannabis should be replanted is that the soil dries out after 1-2 days - this indicates that the pot is not able to hold the required amount of water for cannabis. Additionally, if the plant is wilting, this may indicate that its roots are not able to absorb much moisture.

If your plant sits in one container for a long time, then you should understand that the roots will gradually become cramped. They may even start to crawl out.

How to properly prepare for a transplant

The most important point is to choose the pot wisely. Its volume should be several times larger than the previous one. Next, you need to create drainage at the bottom of the container; pour a layer of substrate or soil mixture on top. After the bush is placed in the container, the earthen ball should be a few centimeters below the edge of the pot.

Also for marijuana, it is best to use a soil mixture that is as similar as possible to the previous one. The new soil should be moist, but not soggy. It is best to cover it in layers of several centimeters and spray.

How to replant marijuana: step-by-step instructions

Before transplanting cannabis, you should first create optimal soil moisture in the old pot. If it’s dry, it will make it difficult to work with the lump, and if it’s too wet, it won’t hold its shape. Slightly moist soil will ensure quick and easy replanting.

When the soil is ready, you need to carefully move the bush into a new pot. The most important thing at this stage is to prevent the roots from being exposed to air and light rays for a long time, since this is a lot of stress.

Transplantation should be carried out in several simple steps:

1. First, lightly tap the old plant pot, where the soil is already moistened, so that it comes away from the walls of the container.

2. Tilt the plant and place your palm so that the plant stem is between your fingers.

3. Take the bush and remove the pot from the lump with your other hand. If it doesn’t work the first time, you can knock on the sides of the pot or twist it slightly so that the lump finally comes out.

4. Carefully take the ball of roots and soil that you pulled out and place it in a new pot with adequate drainage and a small amount of soil.

5. Fill the container with soil and stomp on top a little.

Summarizing what was written above, it is worth noting that transplanting marijuana will not be traumatic for the plant if everything is done correctly. It will be much more dangerous if you do not pay attention to the condition of the roots, which may worsen over time. Remember that the roots determine how healthy the plant will be.
