Choosing the right lighting for marijuana

Choosing the right lighting for marijuana
Content:

Cannabis, like other plants, needs sunlight. Where can you get lighting for cannabis in the winter, and what to do if there is not enough sunshine in your area in the day?

Good lighting is extremely important for cannabis. If a grower grows marijuana outdoors, then he does not face problems such as lack of lighting. Often, artificial lighting is needed for plants that are grown indoors.

Why do we need phytolamps

Hemp phytolamps are designed specifically for indoor growing, perfect for lighting hemp at night and at any other time of the day. They can serve as both the main and additional light source. Such lamps can give the marijuana bush several spectrums of light: infrared rays, blue, green and far red.

In order not to delve into scientific terms, pay attention to the table. In it you will find answers to many questions. What spectrum of glow does cannabis need.

Spectrum color
Wave range
Function
Phase
Blue430-450 nm
Increases the efficiency of photosynthesis, but slows down the appearance of fruits and fruiting.
Spectrum is needed during the growing season. Illumination designed for marijuana growth
Green500-550nm
Facilitates visual detection of cannabis problems. The rays of the spectrum can reach the lowest leaves of the bush.
The phase is always necessary for marijuana.
Red 610-700 nm
Facilitate the photosynthesis phase and do not slow down cell division like the blue spectrum.
Required in the cannabis flowering phase.
Far Red700-750nm
Stimulates photosynthesis and induces cell division. This spectrum directly affects the size of the buds.
Required for the flowering phase.

Marijuana lighting mode

For each variety, you need to choose your own mode. This is necessary in order for all the phases to advance sequentially. Germination - Vegetation - Flowering - Harvest - Harvest. For germination and vegetation, a long daylight hours are needed - from 18 to 20, and during the flowering period, the time should be reduced to 12 hours. Experienced growers use total darkness during the harvest period to increase the THC levels in the buds as well as increase their resin content.

Autoflowering and feminizedvarieties are different, both in cultivation and in lighting.

Lighting for autoflowering strains

  • 16/8 - The lightest mode, which is rarely used because it prolongs the growing season and does not give a profit in yield;
  • 18/6 - A popular way. Ideal for most autoflowering strains;
  • 20/4 - Will reveal the full potential of growth and yield in the plant;
  • 24 - This mode is the most difficult. It is strictly forbidden to use it.

Lighting for feminized strains

It's much easier here. 18 daylight hours and 6 hours of complete darkness must be used during the growing season, and the 12 by 12 mode should be used only during the flowering period.

The main difference between feminized plants and autoflowering plants is the fact that the lighting for feminized varieties must be continuous, also during complete darkness - even artificial light (lantern or room lamp) should not fall on the plant.

The best lamps for lighting cannabis

Let's figure out what kind of lighting is needed for marijuana to reveal its full potential. There are several types of phytolamps: DNAt, LED, ESL.

Dnat

Inexpensive lamp to purchase, but consumes a lot of electricity. Very effective lighting for hemp, both in small areas and large plantations. But there is one nuance in the work of DNAt, such lamps get very hot. It is recommended to keep them at a distance of 60 cm from the bush, otherwise the lamp will burn the leaves. If growing takes place in a grow box, then you need to take into account the ventilation power, because Dnat can increase the air temperature up to 50-60 C.

LED

Hemp phytolamp, which does not require a lot of electricity consumption, it will not be difficult to use and connect. Often LED is used for large plantations. The LED device is very popular. The lamp does not heat up, it can be kept from the plant at a distance of 10-20 cm.

ESL

The best lighting in growboxes. Low cost lamp in terms of power consumption. For large volumes of cannabis cultivation, one lamp will not be enough. Such a lamp does not heat up, but it must be kept at a distance of 20-30 cm from the plant.

Illuminated cannabis at night

LED, DNAT and ESL lamps can be used as both primary and secondary lighting. If a bush grows on a balcony or on a windowsill, then daylight hours will not be enough for it, especially during the growing season.
